Hey everyone, so I'm just going to lay some groundwork down (see what I did there? hint: it's funny because farming) just so for my future posts there's some context. I apologize in advance for possible boredom and its various side effects including, but not limited to drooling, drowsiness, glassy eyes etc.
  • I work at Siena Farms, a CSA vegetable farm in MA.
  • I started working there on June 15th.
  • We work 12 hour work days, 5 days a week.
  • We have staggered weekends --> my weekend is Wednesday and Thursday.
  • The farm does CSA, farmers markets, and sells wholesale to restaurants.

Farming: (v.) The act of operating a farm
Farm: (n.) A tract of land, usually with a house, barn, silo, etc., on which crops and often livestock are raised for livelihood.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA): (n.) A system by which people purchase a share from a local farmand periodically receive vegetables and other agriculturalproducts throughout the farming season.

(Thank you dictionary.com for allowing me to keep my brain dormant.)

So, you might ask, what is a typical schedule at so-called, Siena Farms? My, I'm so glad you asked! Well, it changes from day to day so I'll lay out the week for ya (stay tuned for a complete day), because I know that we farmers are a rare-breed and are simply FASCINATING to normal, civilized, ahemCLEAN folk.

Friday: Market day & wholesale harvest/pack.
Saturday: grunt work day
Sunday: CSA harvest
Monday: CSA pack & market harvest
Tuesday: Market & whole sale harvest/pack
Wednesday/Thursday: God's gift from heaven.
Wash, rinse, and repeat.

happy farming!
